Chris North Charity Trial 2019

Saturday April 6th saw the charity trial return in spectacular fashion for the fourth year in a row. The club has supported the British Heart Foundation with the annual event since 2016 and to date has raised well over £5,000. An achievement the club is extremely proud of. We are very pleased to announce that this year we have raised £1,958 through a combination of rider entries, tea and cake sales, very generous donations and a contribution from club funds. We will be presenting to this to the BHF at their Stratford upon Avon shop in the next few days.

This event has become more than just a trial but a real social occasion on the events calendar. Spectators make the trek up Meon Hill to come and watch the action and donate to the cause. Tea and cake is enjoyed by all at College Farm before and after the event and the day is drawn to a close with prizes for the route winners. A definite feel good vibe event supporting a very worthwhile cause.

Once again this year we were extremely fortunate with the weather on the actual day. The rain from the preceding week made it look like it was going to be a very difficult trial but by the Friday the rain had stopped and come Saturday morning the ground was just right for the 10 sections including the infamous hill climb.

With rider entries from far away as Hull (160 miles!) there was a fabulous turnout of 83 riders which included a strong contingent of TRF riders from West Mids TRF who had come to try their hand at trials riding.

The “widow maker” hill climb was far easier conquered this year owing to the slightly drier ground conditions compared to 2018. The expert riders made light work of the gnarly, tree stump ingrained ascent and so the hill climb prize was awarded to the biggest bike to complete the challenge. Gavin from W. Mids TRF was the deserved winner defeating the 120ft climb on a Husky 500.

Steve Harris not only won the expert route but sealed the deal by winning the impromptu wheelie contest at the end of the trial completing a lap of the parking field on the back wheel!

The club wishes to thank all those supported putting on this great event in aid of the British Heart Foundation.
